Full-Time Staff Person

The full-time staff person for Capital District Community Energy (CDCE) will ideally be familiar with various energy efficiency options and renewable energy technology and be able to communicate that knowledge to community residents through an educational and promotional campaign. This individual should have community organizing and outreach experience, particularly with low-income individuals. The preferred candidate will also be aware of the energy incentive programs offered by New York State and utility companies. Ideally, applicants would also have experience advancing projects to reduce GHG emissions, preparing for a changing climate, strengthening local climate resiliency and/or supporting a transition to a sustainable economic future.

The full-time position will require working on grant fulfillment and reporting. The grant objective is to develop and manage education and outreach activities leading to sign-ups for New York State energy efficiency and renewable energy services. The position will require organizing educational workshops and events spanning 8 different counties, with a focus on low-income communities both urban and rural. This position also involves coordinating outreach and education efforts with other organizations, partners and subcontractors participating in this grant.

The position provides full benefits and a salary commensurate with experience up to $60,000/year. Telecommuting: this position allows for working at home most of the week and in an office in downtown Albany 1-2 days per week.


Full-time Staff Person Qualifications:

  1. Project-oriented, self-starter.

  2. Highly organized with ability to multi-task.

  3. Positive attitude, commitment and follow-through.

  4. Strong writing, editing, speaking and presentation skills.

  5. Good people skills; able to work with people across cultures.

  6. Good skills with Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Google Drive.

  7. Preferred marketing skills would include the ability to create virtual and physical flyers, electronic invitations and social media posts. Knowledge of design/publishing software a plus.

  8. List and customer relationship management skills; familiarity with Salesforce a plus.

  9. Access to a vehicle to travel the 8-county area when required.

  10. A strong commitment to protecting the environment and addressing climate change.


Part-Time Staff Person

The half-time staff person for Capital District Community Energy (CDCE) will ideally be familiar with various energy efficiency options and renewable energy technology and be able to communicate that knowledge to community residents through an educational and promotional campaign. The candidate should have experience implementing outreach strategies in the virtual and social media environment. The preferred applicant will have a demonstrated interest in reducing GHG emissions and preparing communities for a changing climate.

The half-time position will require organizing and providing in-person and virtual outreach activities promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy technology opportunities, leading to sign ups for New York State and utility programs. Outreach activities will include informational webinars, workshops and presentations at community events, with a focus on low-income residents both urban and rural. The position also requires developing and running a social media campaign as well as updating a website as needed. Other requirements include the ability to design and/or modify electronic and print outreach materials and PowerPoint presentations.

This position provides a salary commensurate with experience up to $30/hour for an average of 20 hours/week. Actual hours/week are flexible and location can be mostly from home with office visits in downtown Albany as needed. There are no benefits associated with this position.

Half-time Staff Person Qualifications:

  1. Strong writing, editing, speaking and presentation skills.

  2. Good skills with Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Google Drive.

  3. Understanding of how to organize a social media campaign.

  4. Web design and update skills.

  5. Excellent organization skills with strong self-initiative.

  6. Able to help manage contact lists and customer referrals; familiarity with Salesforce a plus.

  7. Positive attitude, commitment and follow-through.

  8. Access to a vehicle to travel the 8-county area when required.
